Dr. Pascal Brassier of the Groupe ESC Clermont Graduate School of Management in France recently examined sales peoples' view of their own competence for German company Krauthammer, analysing 26 skills associated with 5 big domains of the sales process: 'prospecting', 'diagnosing', 'persuading', 'negotiating' and 'closing'.
The findings revealed that only 27% of salespeople feel they fully master their job, with prospecting the least mastered phase in the sales process – with only 23% of the sales people surveyed showing full confidence.
